asleep at the keyboard

Today is one of those dreary rainy days that just make me sleepy. I mean not wanting to take a nap kind of sleepy, but an I just can’t wake up kind of sleepy. It’s one of those days that led Van Gogh to cut off his ear or Poe to write The Fall of the House of Usher.

When I was a teenager, I would sit on the front porch of our house and watch the rain make bubbles in the puddles. If it was the right time of year, we would all go out and check on the height of the creek to make sure we weren’t going to get flooded. In the summers in college I would like to walk down the sidewalks with no shoes because the heat of the concrete would make the water warm and feel good after the cold rains.

Maybe rainy days are nature’s way of getting us to slow down and sit for a bit, but I already wrote about that. So instead, I’m going to list some things to do inside on a dreary Saturday.

How many TV shows can you watch at the same time?

How much Property Brothers can you stand in one day?

Can you really watch all 3 extended cuts of The Lord of the Rings in one day without saying “my precious” over and over?

Does Pink Floyd’s The Wall really sync up with The Wizard of Oz?

How long would it take to put all my DVD’s in alphabetical order?

Count how many times your kids yell “Mom” or “Dad” in any given hour.

How many times in a row will you let your toddlers watch “Cars”?

How many blogs are you willing to read before you get up and do something productive?

I am really grateful that I have a warm, dry place where I can sit and ponder and avoid doing anything productive myself.

I’m sure you have your own list of things to do on a dreary Saturday, but let me give you one more: read and follow my blog and encourage everyone you know to read and follow it as well.

Oh, sorry about the unfinished post I published before, driver error.
