Winter finally hit us this week. Well, winter for north Florida. It got down to 44 yesterday. Don’t laugh, 44 feels really cold when you are used to 70+. I joked to my wife that I wished I hadn’t gotten rid of my parka when we moved to Florida.
I finally feel like some progress on the remodeling front. Got the kitchen finished except for a few blemishes that will be done later today. Just some sparkle (drywall compound) and some paint touchups and most of the living areas will be done.
I LOVE my macbook! This is one of those “I wish I had done this a long time ago” moments. I am still debating about the whole Office for Mac issue. I think I will try Pages for a while and see how well I do with that. Writing a book or short article shouldn’t really matter, any text editor would do for that. I don’t need fancy fonts or formatting; I’ll let you know how it goes.
I find that I’m using my iPad most of the time for everything else though. The apps work and it is so much easier to just grab the iPad and do a quick check for email on it without having to go to the office and login to the Mac. I find that I’m getting used to the onscreen keyboard and don’t use the bluetooth keyboard as much as I though I would.
I’m having some successes with managing my blood sugar by changing the way I eat. I didn’t realize how many extra carbs I was eating until I started watching them. My favorite cream has 45 carbs in a half cup! And one bagel has my carbs for a whole day. My Starbucks mocha drink has about 45 carbs in one bottle. No wonder my fasting glucose level was in the danger zone (don’t you hear that song Highway to the Danger Zone right now?).
If any of you ever decide to live in a house which you are remodeling, don’t. We kinda made that decision and locked ourselves into it, but it hasn’t been easy. My messy nature along with my EDD (Easily Distracted Disorder) has kept the house in a state of constant…well, mess. I don’t pick up my tools when I’m done. I don’t always even move them off the counter or table or even bed when I’m done with them. I don’t vacuum enough (or ever). I do just put everything in a big box and leave it until I get so pissed off that I dump the whole thing on the floor and put it away. That happens about every other month so far.
We are still in the process of simplifying our lives. It is hard to get rid of possessions that you have had for a long time. We have a kitchen knife that we never use, but have had since we got married. I am bad for keeping shoes and blue jeans past their “becomes radioactive” date. Just how many pens or pencils or paring knives or sets of sheets or towels do two people need? I don’t know, but we have too many. My wife is reading a book about minimalist living. The author of that book says that when you have too many possessions, they own you, you don’t own them. Getting rid of things releases you from bondage to keeping them up.
I appreciate all the kind comments that have been posted recently. I encourage you to not only bookmark this blog, but also to follow me. I’m trying to get a ton of followers: my immediate goal is 100. Please tell your friends who might like my psychotic ravings to read and follow me or like me on Facebook. If you are into some more “spiritual” musings, try my other blog “thedrunktheologian.com”. That is where I vent about spiritual issues, it’s not a blog a lot of old church buddies would forward but it is cathartic for me.
Enough self-advertisement for now. Look for a new post later this week. I hope to have new posts on Monday and Thursday each week now that I’m a “full-time” writer. Maybe someday I’ll even get paid for it. See ya Thursday.
