Something there is that doesn’t like a clean desk. (apologies to Robert Frost)
I hate a messy desk. I think there are gremlins in my office in that come out at night and put stuff on my desk in random places. Usually my keyboard. Or on top of whatever I need the most. I think they hide my phone under a brochure the same color as my case. Which is hard, cause I have a spiderman cover on my phone. They hide my pens, too. I keep a pen on my nightstand, but when I look for it, it is always on my desk in the office under a pile of old bills I swear I filed away. I currently have three journals, 14 pens, a broken set of earbuds, a 25 foot tape measure, an unused iPhone case, a High School yearbook, the remote for the living room TV (don’t ask), my old sunglasses … well you get the picture.
I used to say that a cluttered desk is the sign of an organized mind, but that ain’t true. My mind is just as disorganized as my desk these days. I’m trying to finish our remodel, clean out the garage, start a consulting business and get my real estate license. That and just life in general. Yesterday was the first day since way before we moved that we both took a whole day to just be. The Boss went fishing and I worked on my sailboat. For each of us, it was long overdue. I just laid aside the stuff that needed to be done (it is still here today) and played all day.
I have been trying to get our garage organized for six months. I spent most of Friday and Saturday working on it. I had tools scattered across the whole garage and half the house. I put everything where it mostly belongs and now have 5 empty boxes from where I had just thrown things when I finished with them. I wish I could get it in my head that an extra thirty seconds to put things away would save me hours later on, but that thought just won’t fit in my messy mind. I wish there were some kind of “sort” button in our brains. I could sort my brain by ‘date last used’ or alphabetically or ‘what I thought was really important last week’.
I told someone that I did’t get a lot of spam in my comments, but I was wrong. I get about 30-35 comments every day and about 90% are spam. There must be a little troll that sits out there and writes nonsense and sends it to bloggers. I especially love the ones in Danish or French or even English that are just random words.
I do read all your comments, I do not reply to all of them because they are a lot of questions that I have answered in previous blog posts. I will add a FAQ this week for just those kind of questions.
