I don’t sleep well. Some nights I sleep like a baby, up every two hours. Other nights, like a couple this week, I wake up at 5:30 and can’t go back to sleep. My mind is like a two-year old, once it’s awake, so is the rest of me/we/us. The thoughts that buzz around are just plain weird and hard to quiet. I finally get up and try to be quiet so I won’t awaken My Queen, but the harder you try to be quiet, the more noise you seem to make.
I’m sitting here watching the sky go from black to grey to whatever shade of blue it is going to be today. I read books that describe the sky as azure or cerulean and wonder who makes up those names. I think it’s just …. well … blue. Some days it does seem bluer, but it is still blue. I do think that different places have a darker shade of blue, but that may be because of the altitude or how many people live there cause too much hot air changes the color of the sky and all that noise of too many people creates fractures in the world’s aura and lets in too much purple or magenta or even cerulean or mauve.
I think most of the world’s problems are caused by bad coffee. It is easy to be grouchy when all you have to drink is bad coffee. I know that I am a coffee snob but really, how can a mass market coffee like the stuff in the blue or red cans be considered great coffee? There are restaurants where I just can’t drink their darkly colored water. I do use adulterants in my coffee (cream and sweetener) but even with extra cream and too much sugar, it still tastes like it was made with half cardboard, half day old grounds and extra acid, just for the taste. My dad says that they used to put kerosene in moonshine to give it some taste. I think they do the same thing with restaurant coffee. I have been known to go to a real coffee shop and get a large to go cup and take it into a restaurant for breakfast.
Truck stops have the best on-the-road coffee. There are a couple of places that seem to understand that while you are driving sometimes you just need a good jolt of good java. Some have even taken to stocking “gourmet” flavors and adulterants of various flavors. I prefer the chocolate kind of adulterants in mine. But, you know, sometimes I just want a cup of no nonsense straight, strong coffee. So strong that my wife uses 3/4 of a mug of milk and 1/4 mug of coffee. I do like espresso, a lot, but I get lazy sometimes and just want the caffeine NOW.
I miss bagels. I’m on a low carb lifestyle now. Bagels and donuts and cookies and ice cream are the devil now. I never wanted a bagel so bad as when I was told to avoid them. One really good bagel is about half my carbs for the day, and not the good kind either. But there is something so comforting about a lightly toasted bagel and way too much cream cheese and that perfect cup of coffee that makes the day worth getting up for.
I hear My Queen in the kitchen so I’m gonna go and make some elixir of life and see if I can’t get started on the rest of the day. See y’all later.
