It’s so nice to have grass in the back yard. Since August when they scraped the back yard for the pool, we have had dust and sand and mud. Now, thanks to the landscaper, instant grass. Well, not instant, but with sod, it’s pretty close.
We have been having weird weather here, weird even for Florida. It was 85 today. It will be in the 40’s on Wednesday. I guess it is better than what most of the country is getting though. I will take a few days of 40 and 50 and 60 degree weather cause we don’t have SNOW (yet).
I wanted a fresh organic turkey for Thanksgiving. We bought one last year and it was awesome! They cost more than a non-organic turkey, but we felt it was worth it. So we went to pick one up: Sticker Shock! A fresh certified Florida Organic turkey was almost $80. We opted for the (relatively) cheaper non-drugged “natural” frozen variety for about 1/3 the price.
When we lived in Kentucky, we missed Publix. For those who don’t live in the South, Publix is a regional grocery store chain that is awesome. Not cheap, but awesome. Now that we can shop at Publix all the time, I miss Whole Foods. The nearest Whole Foods is over an hour away. Who would have thought Lexington would have something over our slice of paradise Florida?
I’m texting with my daughter about pecan pie. I love pecan pie. I’m not supposed to eat it anymore. Why are all the things I like to eat not allowed on an diabetic diet? I don’t like stevia or Splenda or any of those other artificial sweeteners. I don’t know what to believe about coconut sugar or agave nectar or honey. I have some research to do.
I went to the credit union today to deposit some checks. I had to order some new deposit slips while I was there. I use more deposit slips than checks. One of the cashiers and I got into a discussion about that. We use our debit cards and online bill pay. I seldom write a check. I had to stop and think about it when I started paying all the contractors working on the house. I had to void two or three cause I just plain forgot how they work. One I even signed on the “Pay to the Order of:” line.
I want a notebook that doesn’t bleed when I write on it with a fountain pen. I think I’m gonna make my own. I’ll just find some fountain pen friendly paper and make my own notebook and journal and calendar. With most notebook paper, you can’t use the back of the pages because of the bleed through. One of my Cross pens is especially wet. I love writing with it, but it seeps through every notebook I have, even the moleskine one. I’ll let you know how that works out.
I made some shoe laces out of paracord for the first time last week. I may never buy shoe laces again. I just shrinked some heat shrink over the end and viola–shoelaces. And they are long enough. It’s a great time to be alive.
I have several requests about my contact information. My email is:
PurposefulGeek@gmail.com.
It is not case sensitive, its just easier to see how things are spelled with a few caps in there.
I have also had a few comments about various browsers behaving badly with this blog. I use Safari mostly (I have a MacBook) and have not seen any issues. I look at every post to see how they look and behave, and they behave okay on my Mac. I look at them in FireFox and Chrome as well, but not Internet Explorer. According to Microsoft, they don’t make a version of IE that will run on a Mac anymore. I will try to check on my Windows 8 laptop as time permits. Mostly I suspect it is an old version of the browser behaving badly with WordPress. Or not. Probably gremlins.
I will post on Thursday so you can have something to read to put you asleep after your big Turkey dinner. Y’all come back.
